Participation in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will soon become available for every health professional interested to become a provider.
Over 460,000 Australians with disability will enter the NDIS in coming years. There are growth opportunities for providers who respond to this new demand. Providers will be given the resources and tools to adjust to the new market environment. Note that “provider” is the term used to describe an individual or organisation that delivers a support or a product to a participant in the NDIS.
Registration with the NDIS will need to wait until the NDIS is about to be rolled out in the area you operate in. However, to register as a provider with the National Disability Insurance Agency, you need to complete the following steps:
- Download and complete the Provider Registration Application Form. Save and submit it electronically using the Submit button in the PDF form
- After submitting, NDIA will process the form and issue nominated employee who then will be required to obtain an AUSKey to access the NDIA Provider Portal to complete the registration process
- Once an AUSKey has been obtained, the nominated employee will submit several information for guidance on qualifications, experience, capacity and approvals required to provide supports.
- NDIA will assess your request and will respond via email.

The NDIS started in July 2013 as a trial in a four locations: Tasmania, South Australia, the Barwon area of Victoria, and the Hunter area in New South Wales.
From 1 July 2014 the NDIS started in the ACT, the Barkly region of Northern Territory, and the Perth Hills area of Western Australia.
On 1 July 2015, early transition started in Nepean Blue Mountains area in New South Wales.
Early transition started in Townsville, Charters Towers and Palm Island in Queensland in January 2016.
Roll out of the full scheme in all states and territories (except Western Australia) will start progressively from July 2016. Roll out details are now available for New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland – early transition in some parts, and South Australia.
