University deregulation won’t go ahead any time soon

Careers and University

Prospective university students around the country can let out a collective sigh of relief……. for now….

The Federal Government has been unable to pass its higher education reform package through the senate, which means that universities will not be able to set their own fees.

It was a close vote in the senate though, with 31 for and 33 against the proposed changes.

Federal Education Minister Christopher Pyne has said that “great reform takes time,” and has said that “round one is over, round two begins.” One the night that the higher education reform package failed to make it through the senate, he said that he would be representing a new bill which would be debated in February 2015.
