What’s ahead for graduate dentists – by Dr Viet Nguyen

Careers and University, Dentistry

We asked 2011 graduate Dr Viet Nguyen what advice he had for new dentists. This is what he said……

“Congratulations on making it to the final frontier of your dental education journey! I’m sure the next few months will be one filled with cold calling, walking into clinics, researching on jobs and plenty of networking to get the job you want.

Your dental journey really starts now.

What you have learnt in dental school is the starting platform as you will soon learn and find out that the next few years will be the steepest learning curve yet! So hang on tight! But once you get into the rhythm and swing of things, the dental job is really rewarding and satisfying and yes, it will provide that job/life balance you have always desired- that’s why you applied to study right?

Haha jokes aside, it’s a really important time to learn and absorb as much clinical information as possible. By doing continuing professional development, you can increase your scope of practice and streamline your learning from leading dentists. If you haven’t already done so, join the ‘Young Dentist Hub’ group on Facebook where there are plenty of tips for young dentists, especially new grads and add all your friends to see what upcoming relevant topics that will be discussed at the next seminar or conference!

Wish you all the best of luck!”

Dr Viet Nguyen Viet graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Melbourne in 2011, and has worked as a dentist in private practice since this time. He is a passionate young health professional who is always offering patients the highest quality care as he is at the forefront of cutting edge dentistry.
