How to get a job in hospital pharmacy

Pharmacy

The Society of Hospital Pharmacist of Australia (SHPA) has shared some suggestions for how to get a job in hospital pharmacy. They stated that community pharmacists don’t have to have completed an internship in a hospital.

1.   tips to get a job in hospital pharmacyGet a good understanding of what is expected of hospital pharmacists
First of all, look at job descriptions for hospital pharmacist positions that are advertised and also see the selection criteria.

2.   Improve your clinical pharmacy skills
You will be introduced to different roles within the department after some times in a dispensary. You can benefit from seminars, training, and courses, some of which are provided by the SHPA.

3.   Look for jobs in hospitals
You have to actively look for jobs that match your skill set and interest as some hospitals may just advertise pharmacist jobs without specifying the exact location within the hospital.

4.   Go rural
Or, apply for a position in a rural hospital to gain broad experience in a team environment. As rural hospitals are integral to the community, it is a great opportunity for you who have a working background in community pharmacy.

5.   Network
Don’t forget to network by attending SHPA Branch CE lectures and meeting hospital pharmacists in your area.

If you are interested in working in a hospital pharmacy, you can find more information on the SHPA website.
