Planning for the future with Optometry 2040 – a webinar and seminar series

Optometry

Optometry 2040 will enable the optometry sector to collaborate to identify, test and consider initiatives to create a sustainable and successful optometry sector over the next 20 years and beyond.”, said Optometry Australia’s CEO Ms Lyn Brodie as she announced the launch of the program.

This initiative, led by experts Professor Niki Ellis and Professor Sohail Inayatullah will feature a series of workshops between March and September 2018. Commencing at Silmo Sydney on 6 March, the event will include a live seminar participated by members of Optometry Australia, optometry sector influencers such as optometric suppliers, key health care stakeholders, government, academics and students.

The concerns about technologic, economic, political and demographic changes causing disruption to practice models, working conditions, patient care, training requirements and communications have pushed the creation of this initiative.

“Change will continue at increasingly rapid rates and rather than hope it may settle, we must embrace and channel the opportunities it brings for the successful sustainability of our sector” said Ms Brodie.

Optometry 2040 aims to do the following:

  • enable the sector to collaborate to identify, test and consider initiatives to create a sustainable and successful optometry sector over the next 20 years and beyond
  • enable the optometry sector using proven techniques to identify potential futures for optometry and what is needed to ensure preferred futures becomes a reality
  • collaborate to create and have better control over the future of the profession
  • create multi-decade strategy that will become the blueprint for a progressive Australian optometry sector
