Do you need mentoring after graduating?

Careers and University, Occupational Therapy

CovalentCareers has shared a video featuring Steve Flathers on mentorship as a new occupational therapist.

Steve talks about one of the important things to keep in mind when looking for jobs as a new graduate, who makes the transition from a student in the protective shell to a workfield full of responsibility.

Since not all workplaces are going to provide mentorship, Steve suggests you to ask yourself the following questions before deciding whether the job is the right fit for you:

  • Are they going to throw you on day one with a full caseload of patients, or are they going to ease you in with a slow transition?
  • Are they going to focus on you as an individual and teaching you, or are they going to expect you to jump in and learn on your own?
  • Are you the kind of person who likes to be thrown in and think that’s going to make you grow the most?
  • Are you somebody who needs that mentorship to learn the ropes and to ease into a job?
