Career practitioners – are you getting the most out of the resources on My Health Career?
It’s the time of year when high school and other prospective undergraduate students are seriously thinking about the courses they might like to commence in 2016. It is peak season for many careers advisors, guidance counsellors and career development practitioners.
1. Career practitioner quick links page
To make life easier, we’ve put the links to all our important pages on our career practitioner quick links page. On this page, you will find links to all our resources which will help students to see if a particular profession is right for them. It includes links to our career summary pages, pathway infographics, health industry, labour market, salary and scholarship information. It’s simple and quick to email the links to your students or clients during or after your session!
2. Career summaries
We have career summary pages for 10 health professions on the website. Career summaries include links to the career pathway infographics, practitioner video interviews, articles about where the jobs are, course information, and information about the good and bad points of a number of health professions from real health practitioners.
3. Career pathway infographics
After being to numerous careers expos, we have seen how clueless high school students can be when it comes to pathways. So we’ve created pathways infographics for over 20 health professions. These are fast becoming some of the most popular pages on our website.
Here is the link to our pathways infographics: https://www.myhealthcareer.com.au/pathways/
4. ATARs and OPs
When we are at career expos, one of the most common questions we get asked are “what is the ATAR or OP” for a particular course. We have recently researched the ATARs and OPs for every course in Australia for 14 health professions, and will be publishing a series of articles on this in September. We will be linking the ATAR and OP information to each relevant career summary.
5. Get your students and clients to subscribe
We all know that high school and other prospective undergraduate students might be considering a course for months or years before they enrol. Of course it’s not possible for you to let your students and clients know every time there is a change in a particular profession, so have them subscribe to My Health Career for free so they know what’s happening.
My Health Career generally publishes at least one article per month in the categories of dentistry, dietetics, exercise physiology / science, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, the health industry, the business of health and careers / university.
6. Facebook and Twitter
My Health Career is on Facebook and Twitter, which makes it easy to “like,” “share” and “retweet” us. We know that it can be time consuming to create your own content on your Facebook and Twitter feed, so feel free to share ours! It’s also a great place to give us feedback on a topic and let us know what topics you think we should be covering.
Hopefully this will make “careers season” that bit easier in 2015 and beyond!!
