Making university graduates more work ready

Careers and University

Universities Australia have announced that the National Workplace Integrated Learning Strategy will make university graduates more “job ready.”

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is well established in many areas, like health and teaching, but this landmark strategy is focused to make university graduates more work ready.

By implementing WIL, the industry will give students the skills and experience they need to match employer expectations through activities such as work placements, internships, shadowing programs and practical projects. The students can then bring their experience to the workplace and be more able to meet the future employer’s requirements.

Belinda Robinson, Chief Executive of Universities Australia said “These invaluable ‘hands-on’ experiences help put a student’s education in context and make a real difference to the skills and capacity they can bring to the workplace. Through the implementation of this strategy we can expect more places for students in industry, better prepared graduates and a workforce that is more able to meet the growth needs of industry.”

Thousands of employers already partner with universities to provide WIL experiences, but now the overarching national strategy will guide its future growth.
