In a TEDx video titled The Power of a Smile, Dr Steven Lin talks about the association between oral health and overall wellbeing. For instance, a simple act of regular flossing once a day can prevent gum disease. And it has been shown that gum disease linked to more serious diseases, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and also erectile dysfunction.
According to Dr Lin, the stubborn reluctance in seeing a dentist can be brought on from past experiences when dental care was terribly painful. As a result, people continue to perceive that dental treatment is stressing despite of the fact that modern dentistry is now can be almost painless.
Dr Lin suggested that the key to better oral health is to unlock the communication and spread the knowledge that 90% of dental diseases are preventable.
Dr Lin is the founder DentalHub, an information platform that provides communication between health professionals and patients. The combination of education, communication, and integrating technology is expected to result in increasing of oral health and overall wellbeing.
