The Psychologically Healthy Workplace Program (PHWP) is an evidence-based initiative developed by The Australian Psychological Society (APS). The program aims to promote psychological health and wellbeing in Australian workplaces. The program is backed by research from PricewaterhouseCoopers which shows that businesses implementing successful mental health strategies will more than double their outlay, with each $1.00 invested leading to an average return of $2.30.

PHWP assesses workplace psychological health across six key indicators; supportive leadership, role clarity, development and growth, staff engagement, morale and workplace stress.

The assessment of those six indicators will benefit the employees, which are:

  • Having supportive leaders
  • Clearly defined goals and expectations
  • Opportunities for development and growth
  • Participation in collaborating team
  • Positive morale
  • Lower workplace stress.

And the benefit for businesses are:

  • High level of employees’ performance, productivity, and satisfaction
  • Lower occurrence of workplace conflict, stress related compensation claims, and absenteeism

Following the assessment, a PHWP expert will provide recommendations and advices about how to enhance the psychological health of the workplace based on the detailed report of PHWP assessment.
