AHPRA is seeking to fill 102 practitioner and community member vacancies on 11 of its national boards. Professions which have board vacancies for health professionals are Chinese medicine, chiropractic, dental, medical, nursing & midwifery, optometry, osteopathy, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry and psychology.
The functions of a national board include the registration of students and practitioners in the profession, investigating notifications and complaints, approving accreditation standards and accredited courses of study, and developing standards, codes and guidelines for the relevant health profession.
AHPRA estimates that the time commitment is at least two to three days per month. Board members will need to be available for approximately 11 meetings per year, which can be face to face or via teleconference or videoconference. Face to face meetings are usually held in the AHPRA office in the Melbourne CBD.
To be eligible to apply for the practitioner member vacancies applicants must hold current registration as a health practitioner in the relevant profession. Background checks including criminal and financial checks will be carried out on prospective board members. The daily sitting fees are $740 for a board chair and $607 for a board member. A half day fee will apply where the meeting is less than 4 hours in duration.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 12th November 2014.
